Our Organic Ethopia Yirgacheffe is a washed coffee that is characterized by a mellow, almost sweet citrusy tang and a floral spice to finsh. This coffee is from a distict region within the Sidamo region which is south of Addis Ababa. The coffee market here is unique: prices are determined at daily auctions (held year round) in Addis Ababa. Our coffee comes from the Oromia co-op which was founded in 1999 when over 23,000 members of 35 smaller co-ops banded to sell their coffee directly to the specialty market. It is now the largest Fair Trade co-op in Ethiopia. Oromia aids members with the technical and agricultural aspects of producing 100% organic coffee. Perhaps most importantly, members are encouraged to reduce dependence on foreign food by interspersing coffee plantations with banana and citrus trees. Fair Trade purchased.
